Simulated Electronic Navigation, Limited - SEN L

Prerequisites:  We strongly recommend completion of NS1, CP1 and ROC-MC prior to taking the SEN L training.

Simulated Electronic Navigation, Operational - SEN O

(previously SEN 1 Part B)

Prerequisites: EPS, ROC-MC, CP2, NS1 

Tuition: $2,500

Simulated Electronic Navigation, Management - SEN M

(previously SEN 2)

Prerequisites: (as per guidance from TC, we are currently asking for SEN 2 course prerequisites until the new MPRs are published)

• Electronic Positioning Systems (EPS) & Simulated Electronic Navigation, Operational (SEN O) (or SEN 1 Parts A & B); and
• ROC-MC;
• or Marine Safety approved qualifying service

Once the new MPRs are published, the following prerequisites will apply for SEN M:

• Simulated Electronic Navigation Operational Level (SEN O) or Simulated Electronic Navigation Fish (SEN F); and
• hold one of the following Certificates of Competency: OOW; OOW-NC; Master 3000 Gross Tonnage, Domestic; Master 500 Gross Tonnage, Domestic; Chief Mate 500 Gross Tonnage, Domestic; Fishing Master, Limited Waters; Fishing Officer, Unlimited Waters; Fishing Officer, Limited Waters; and
• 6 months of sea service at the officer or master level.
• Note: A thorough knowledge of ECDIS will be beneficial before taking this course.

SIM-O/SIM-M Exam Challenge

The following applies to candidates in order to be eligible for a SIM Exam Challenge:

• Direct Entry Candidates holding a valid TCMSS letter of equivalency who require the SIM-O or SIM-M exam as part of the approval process for a Canadian Certificate of Competency.
• Candidates who have successfully completed the approved SEN O or SEN M training but have not completed the SIM-O/SIM-M exam, or their exam credit expired before the Certificate of Competency was achieved.

This training will familiarize the candidates with the KSIM software prior to their exam, as well as refresh their skills required to pass the exam.  Please note: There will be no instruction provided by ºÚÁÏÀÏ˾»ú to exam challenge candidates.  These sessions are to familiarize the candidate with our simulator equipment only.

For the SIM-O exam challenge, candidates will have two days to practice radar plotting and watchkeeing practices prior to the exam on day three.  For the SIM-M exam challenge, candidates will complete a detailed passage plan prior to arriving at the school (a package will be mailed to the candidate ahead of time), then will have three days to practice.  The TC Examiner will review the passage plan on day four and the SIM-M exam will be conducted on day five (pending passage plan approval).

Prerequisite: Candidates must submit a valid TCMSS "Direct Entrant Letter" or a copy of their SEN O or SEN M training certificate.

Candidates who are unsuccessful in challenging the SIM-O/SIM-M examination will be required to register for the full SEN O/SEN M training course.
